In response, to the impact of COVID-19 the Māori Outcomes team at Auckland Unlimited brought forward an Economic Summit. This kaupapa already formed part of the existing work programme to activate and proactively plan for 2021 and beyond.
As part of the pre-planning for the summit and in relation to the call to action, Auckland Unlimited also commissioned Shamubeel Eaqub at Sense Partners to produce a report on the state of the Tāmaki Makaurau economy including the challenges, trends and opportunities for Māori to realise their economic aspirations.
The outcomes of the Summit together with the economic report will form the evidential basis for Auckland Unlimited’s continued commitment to leading an actionable pathway forward for Māori across the rohe.
The current global environment means we have an opportunity to adapt, to think differently, and to not be afraid to introduce different types of thinking to lead new solutions to domestic and global challenges.
There are three core areas for action that will form an action plan addressing the range of issues and opportunities identified at the Summit.
Action 1: Innovation & Opportunity
Action 2: Wellbeing & Inclusivity
Action 3: Identity & Potential
